Cayman Brac - Providing free tennis coaching to government school children is an important part of what the TFCI does. Walkers has again very kindly stepped up to sponsor tennis coaching and tennis development in the Brac for 2016. Walkers has supported tennis on the Brac since 2012; we are especially grateful for that continuity. The Walkers tennis programme has seen the development of tennis coaching and playing in the Sister Islands’ primary schools, supported by coaching visits from Grand Cayman pros. This year, the aim is to have a Grand Cayman tennis coach visit twice a month. The long-term aim is to train up school P.E. teachers on the Brac to teach tennis, so that tennis can become part of regular P.E. classes.
PwC Junior Tennis Circuit
The Junior Circuit tournaments, organized by the TFCI, are held throughout the year for junior players. Sponsorship is generously provided by PwC. Players are awarded points at every tournament for matches won and lost which translate into national rankings. There are four age categories: 11&U, 13&U and 18&U. Tournament details, results and rankings can be viewed under the tournaments page.
The Elite Squad is a training group for the islands’ top juniors. The top three players in each age group (11&U, 13&U and 18&U) are invited to join.Selection for the squad is based on a player’s performance and points earned in PwC junior circuit tournaments throughout the year. The Squad trains every Friday afternoon at CITC for 90 minutes. The coach is Dale Avery of CITC in South Sound. During training sessions, players work on technical, tactical, physical and mental aspects of the game. Discipline is strict. There is an excellent camaraderie within the group, and there’s great pride in being a member. No player has ever turned down an invitation to join, and attendance is usually 100%.
